It's the top of the first. Runners on 1st and 2nd, CRACK!!! The balls leaves the bat at an astounding speed upwards of 20 miles per hour. The focus of the third baseman Matthew Welch never falters as he begins his stalking of the ball as it races t'ward him.....
Although he calls off the other players, laying claim the ball as his own, they cannot resist the chase. Little do his team-mates know that there will be no sharing of this play, the Honkball great, known to some as Matthew or known to others as Mr. Honkball, is now seeing through the eye of the tiger and nothing can take his focus away from his goal.
With the agility known to few mortals this honkball player dives to gain possession of the ball. Then with cat-like speeds he is yet again on his feet. One step is taken..... and with a mighty throw the ball turns into nothing but a flash, screaming t'ward it's first base target with such speed the recipient of this throw can only stand in awe as the ball careens t'ward him. Time is standing still. Those in the bleachers can only watch as this once ball, now small meteorite, threatens to make the first baseman rethink his career path. A deer in headlights indeed.
This one's to you Mr. Honkball eye of the tiger throws with such power it invokes nothing but fear into the oposing team guy. Well done sir...well done.
Oh but fret not my Honkball fans and fellow readers. Our hero does more than just field the perfect play. But I fear you can only take one story at a time. For a story so great as his batting we shall have to be patient for another time.....
